OWN OPERATIONS & DONATIONS
Donations
We try to adapt our collections as much as possible to the taste and needs of our customers, so that we have less residual stock. Our surplus items and samples are sold to outlet stores or in sample sales or are donated. Read more about our donations below.
Red Cross
The Red Cross helps receive people who have applied for refuge in the Netherlands. Many people in the reception centers have insufficient (warm) clothing and shoes. Therefore, the Red Cross started a central collection to provide 5000 men, women and children with suitable and warm winter clothing and shoes in the coming months. We donated 26 boxes with men, women, and children clothing to the Red Cross. Together with other brands we raised a total of 20.000 pieces. We are happy that we could contribute! Movement On The Ground (MOTG)
Movement On The Ground (MOTG) does important work in refugee camps on the Greek Islands: Lesbos, Chios and Samos. Their community volunteers work very hard on a daily basis, which is why MOTG wanted to provide all community volunteers with an outfit that they can wear outside of work. Last year, we donated 14 boxes full of nice warm winter items to this organization. These items were for refugees who help the organization as volunteers at the camps. Just in time for the winter. For more information about MOTG, click here.
Sympany
Throughout the year we make donations to Sympany. Sympany aims to contribute to a sustainable world while preserving raw materials. By collecting, sorting, and selling/recycling textiles, Sympany focuses on reuse and recycling of textiles. Together with Coolcat, America Today donated, among other things, 1650 summer sweats in August 2021 and 46 pallets and 25 sacks with rejected items to Sympany in October 2021.
Unicef
Via the Cool Foundation, America Today, CoolCat, and MS Mode are supporting the work UNICEF does, through financial contributions and with a focus on projects that are geared toward the development of children in Bangladesh. All children have the right to basic provisions such as education, clean drinking water, and growing up in a safe environment, and they also deserve equal opportunity to reach their full potential. By financially contributing to these projects, the Cool Foundation hopes to create a more inclusive society. For more information about the mission and work methods of Cool Foundation, take a look at their website.
BOMB The Brand
BOMB The Brand makes products from leftover materials or fabrics. We were more than happy to invite the girls from BOMB The Brand over to collect old samples of ours, to turn them into cool unique items. This way a part of our samples got a second life in their collection. Read more here.
Own operations
We also try to work more sustainably in our own operations: in our daily work in offices, stores and distribution centers.
Stores
In our stores, we measure energy consumption with smart meters and use energy-efficient LED lighting.
Also, our stores are mainly furnished with reused and recycled materials. Recycling is also stylish: the unique style of used carpets and the story behind old leather couches, for example, give our stores an authentic look that can’t be found anywhere else.
Head office
At our head office, you will find all kinds of reused materials. The doors and carpets are secondhand, or as we like to call it: previously loved. This contributes to the unique character at our office. In addition, our office is labeled “Energy Class A” and our energy consumption is monitored by an external party that helps us reduce our consumption.
Our cafeteria catering is provided by OSP catering, a catering company that aims to be the best and greenest caterer in the Netherlands. Sustainable entrepreneurship and organic products are high on their agenda. We see and taste this every day, for example during our lunch, with many regional, seasonal, vegan, and organic products, or when we reuse coffee grounds to grow mushrooms.
Warehouse
At our warehouse we use re-usable plastic crates to transport our products in. If they break, they are recycled. To increase efficiency and reduce emissions from transport, the crates are filled as much as possible, and we plan our routes to supply our stores as optimal as we can.
Climate & Energy
Climate & energy is one of our priority risk areas, and not a small one. We recognize the urgency of the climate crisis that we all face and want to do our part. Currently we work on reducing our emissions by using more sustainable materials and processes, but we need to do more and show the data. Therefore, we set the new goal for ourselves to measure our baseline and set Science Based Targets by 2025.
