How would you describe your way of working?
When I'm painting, I really like to think about how clean a line can be or how I can use the tool in a way that's interesting for me in my practice.
Thinking about how the brush works and what kind of imagery, what changes within the imagery by the use of the brush. And I like the kind of texture that it gets from just working with a sort of semi-dry brush.
What inspired you for this collaboration?
Thinking about images that would make sense for this collaboration. So I knew it was going to be summer based, so I wanted to think about what kind of imagery would connect with that but also was still interested and connected to the work I'm doing otherwise.
I work with a lot of floral imagery and I wanted to kind of use that again. So then I had like, I wanted to incorporate like the leaves and like the kind of foliage and things that I also still work with.
Tell us more about the final graphics
So I wanted to like really create an artwork that was very like inspired by that folk art background, very kind of like stylised. This kind of was the last of a few kind of rounds of like sketching out an artwork, thinking about how the face would work and not too friendly, not too angry. Something that wasn't too childish, something that wasn't too like serious, but something a nice balance in between. And then incorporating some more summer based influences and thinking about like the Hokusai wave and creating my own version of that. So I created this imagery that I could incorporate the sun into to make like a quite nice like fresh graphic, but something that was still quite, could work in one color, could work like in different ways. And like this also works like as a repeating pattern as well. So this kind of wave can continue forever essentially.
