We are determined to act in a responsible way and contribute to a sustainable fashion industry. We want to offer you a collection that is produced with respect for people and the environment. Therefore, we work hard to continually improve the sustainability of our products.
To empower you, our consumers, to make informed choices, we want to be transparent about our work on sustainability. Therefore, we are very happy to share with you our sustainability report.
We treat everyone the way we would like to be treated ourselves
Code of conduct
The design and sales of our clothing is done by us. Production takes place at specialized suppliers, with whom we’ve worked with for a long time. That’s why we are constantly able to improve the work environment where needed. Our values and standards have been included in the Code of Conduct. This is a statement where we clearly described how we work and how we want our suppliers to treat their employees. We treat everyone as we would like to be treated ourselves and expect the same from our partners.
Read our entire Code of Conduct here Code of Conduct
As a retailer we are capable of invoking positive changes in the factories, but we also understand that we stand stronger together. That is why we became member of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI). This is an independent party with the aim of improving worldwide working conditions in production chains. Please visit for more information www.bsci-intl.org. Participation with BSCI helps us and our partners comply with our Code of Conduct.
In Asia colleagues from our own local purchasing offices carry out inspections on the working conditions in the factories. In addition, we have factories inspected by independent inspectors via BSCI. The independent inspector checks the entire factory, talks with the employees and inspects the administration. To expand knowledge at our suppliers, we give constructive feedback on the improvement plans and our suppliers can attend BSCI trainings. In doing so we assist our suppliers in the process of improving the working conditions step by step.
Care Today, buy for tomorrow.
We prefer, where possible, sustainable materials for our clothing, including tencel, cotton from the Better Cotton Initiative, recycled polyester and organic cotton. Our products are always animal-friendly and never contain forbidden chemicals.
We love organic cotton
We love tencel
Since 2018 America Today is partner of the Better Cotton Initiative. The Better Cotton Initiative was founded to improve the worldwide cotton production, the people producing it, for the environment and for the future of the sector. That way everyone benefits. This is only possible by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable raw material.
The production of Better Cotton has tangible economic, social and ecological benefits. You don’t have to take our word for it, the farmers and workers are happy to tell you all about it: Read the stories here
Our products are not allowed to contain any animal fur or animal-unfriendly produced angora. We are listed on the Fur Free Retailers list, see www.furfreeretailer.com. The use of feathers is only acceptable with a certificate of origin. The origin of the material and confirmation that the material was obtained in an animal friendly manner should be certified. Also, PVC is forbidden in our clothing.
It is probably the most popular fabric ever: denim. Unfortunately, there are many significant disadvantages to denim. For example, during the production of cotton for just one pair of jeans, 4000 liters of water is used and when dying the cotton threads, a lot of hazardous waste is released into the surface water. Summarized: denim has a reasonably negative impact on the earth. That is why, since 2018 we have joined the Alliance For Responsible Denim (ARD) project.
The ARD is an initiative of Made-By, Circle Economy and the Hogeschool of Amsterdam that unites denim brands to work together in taking steps to reduce the negative impact of denim production.

Responsible Down Standard
There is nothing warmer than a winter coat filled with down. America Today exclusively uses down with the “Responsible Down Standard” certificate. This means that live ducks are not plucked and the ducks are not reared aggressively. Check RDS for more information.
At America Today the earth and the people are central. We care about nature and others and don’t shy away from making changes. Changes that have a real impact, so that Today we can care for Tomorrow. Our employees, customers, shareholders, suppliers and their personnel, local communities and the environment mean more to us than that alone: they are part of the big America Today family for which we are all responsible.
We are working on structurally decreasing our energy consumption and CO2 emissions. For example, this is done by applying energy-efficient LED lights and smart meters in our stores. An external party then assesses the energy consumption in our stores. This gives us a clear view of our consumption and helps us further reduce energy consumption.
But it doesn’t stop there. Also, our stores are mainly furnished with re-used and recycled materials. Apart from that, we make a competition in our stores out of recycling as much and as good as possible. Recycling is also stylish: the unique style for example of used rugs and the history of old, leather sofas, gives our stores an authentic look that can’t be found anywhere else.
At our head office (energy class A) you will find a lot of re-used materials. For example, the doors and rugs are secondhand, or as we like to say: previously-loved. This all contributes to a unique character at our office. In addition, our energy consumption is monitored by an external party that helps us to reduce our energy consumption.
Because we want to keep you and the environment safe, our suppliers don’t use any hazardous chemicals. This is not just an empty promise: we and our inspectors monitor the production process from A to B.
Dutch Agreement on Sustainable Garments and Textile
We are proud to be part of the Dutch Agreement on Sustainable Garments and Textile. Together with other clothing brands, the government, NGOs, branch organizations and labor unions work on improving sustainability within the international clothing and textile production. Recently, we confirmed where our clothing is produced and agreements were made with the factories on how improvements can be made. Besides, new suppliers can only work for us if they meet all our requirements.
